ROAD ADVENTURES HOT SPOT: WHITE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL FOREST, NEW HAMPSHIRE

ROAD ADVENTURES HOT SPOT:
WHITE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL FOREST, NEW HAMPSHIRE

The northeast provides some of the most breathtaking scenery and beautiful landscapes, and that is why we chose to feature the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire as our September Hot Spot location.

This national forest makes for the perfect fall destination and is filled with fun family pastimes including mountain tramways, scenic railways, caves, rock climbing tours, museums and more!

Cannon Mountain

To begin our top picks for your White Mountain National Forest getaway, we’ve selected… Cannon Mountain! Starting with an 80-passenger aerial tramway that takes you all the way to the 4,100-foot summit where you can see the entirety of the White Mountains as well as into Maine, Vermont and Canada!  This mountain includes summit walking paths, swimming in Echo Lake, boating, Observation Decks, and a few museums.

Conway Scenic Railway

Ride the rails along valley routes to Conway and Bartlett, or journey along the Crawford Notch excursion inside a traditional old-fashioned train experience.  These train rides offer Coach, First Class, Dome-seating, or dining experiences.  There’s something amazing about taking the historical scenic trips this adventure offers and it’s fun for the whole family!

Polar Caves Park

This park isn’t your typical city park.  This happens to be one of New Hampshire’s top outdoor experiences including 9 caves, 7 attractions, 5 guided rock-climbing tours, an Animal Park and a Via Ferrata (an iron climbing feature spanning over 170 feet).  This park’s attractions has gem mining for the kids, picnics and hikes for the whole family, and rock climbing and cave exploring for the older kids and adults.  So get everyone in the camper ready and make a day out of it!

Wright Museum of WWII

The darkest period in modern history comes to life with vehicles, dioramas, period clothing, artifacts and more from the home front to the farthest battlefields of World War II.  This a great activity for your trip if anyone in your group is a history buff and wants to see amazing things from 1939-1945.  This museum is not open year-round however and is only open between May and October each year.

The Carriage House Restaurant

This restaurant happens to be a favorite of the lake-region and even offers vegetarian and gluten-free options!  You can choose to dine in historic 1914 horse stalls or on a gorgeous terrace with breathtaking views of Lake Winniepesaukee and the surrounding mountains!  The food is phenomenal and the ourdoors dining experience is unbeatable.

Along the River Campground

This campground, located on the Ammonoosuc River, has what we look for when searching for the ideal campsite: surrounded by nature, pet friendly, and comes with the full hookups we want for our campers!   Additionally, this campground offers an inground pool, WiFi, and nearby hiking, biking, golfing, as well as other attractions!

New Hampshire is beautiful and fun to visit year-round! But, if you’re going to pick a spot there to camp at, we definitely recommend White Mountain National Forest as the sights, food, high-adventure, and ability to share it with everyone in the family make it worth spending your whole vacation there!  There’s something for everyone!
