SANDUSKY

Imagine looking across Lake Erie from atop a Ferris wheel – the entire vista is yours to explore. With nearly 22 miles of lakeshore and more attractions than you can wave a paddle at, including ferries to Lake Erie Islands, Sandusky is the “little town that could.” Situated just 2.5 hours from Columbus along the picturesque shores of Lake Erie, this town offers entertainment both big and small. The amusement parks on Cedar Point have thrilled families for generations. Or, you can slow the pace and simply enjoy the brisk lake air in a place where time is yours. From sea kayaking or sailing to rollercoaster- and waterpark-nirvana, Sandusky rises to the occasion. Pull into Camper Village at Cedar Point, Camp Sandusky or one of more than a dozen campgrounds.

CEDAR POINT

If rides thrill you and yours, then Sandusky is YOUR place. Cedar Point Amusement Park, home to 17 rollercoasters, will keep your entire family entertained with rides, shows, games and even friends at Planet Snoopy. In 2016, be among the first to ride the new Valravn, the tallest, fastest, longest-dive coaster. Or, choose from indoor or outdoor waterparks galore like Soak City. To satisfy your need for speed, try an airboat tour along the east bay of Cedar Point – your inner adrenaline junkie will rejoice.

WATERFRONT DISTRICT

For a slower pace, head to Sandusky’s Waterfront District. You will enjoy simply strolling about, checking out the shops or enjoying the views at Shoreline Park. Be sure to stop at the Merry-Go-Round Museum, a great juxtaposition to other thrill rides in Sandusky, or visit the Maritime Museum to learn the inner workings of a Great Lake town. Grab a bite at Dockside Café or Pier 684. Work off lunch with the Downtown Architectural Walking Tour of 12 sites from the turn of the 20th century, including Carnegie Library. Be sure to keep an eye out for Great Lakes freighters – they are impressive sights, and catch the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings for a bite of tasty, local freshness.

LAKE ERIE ISLANDS

Take a ferry (such as a traditional Miller Ferry or a high-speed Jet Express catamaran) to one of the Lake Erie Islands. Put-in-Bay, Kelleys Island and Middle Bass Island are among the most popular destinations in Ohio. Stay for an afternoon, an evening or for days on one of these inviting resort islands.

MILAN AND BELLEVUE

Just down the road, visit the home of a genius at the Thomas A. Edison Birthplace Museum in Milan. Stretch your legs with a bike ride or hike on the Milan Canal Parkway or rest a bit in the Milan Town Square before grabbing a “beast burger” at Invention Family Restaurant. Then head to Bellevue and walk through history at the Historic Lyme Village, including preserved log cabins, shops and schoolhouses from the 19th century. Special events, like battle reenactments and old time baseball, will give you an authentic taste of days gone by. After a full day, return to your Road Adventures trailer to enjoy some tasty eats and rest up for another.
