HOW TO BACK UP YOUR TRAILER IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS

If you don’t regularly tow a trailer, the prospect of backing it up to park it in a campsite can be as intimidating as trying to make small talk with your boss’s boss at the office Christmas party.

So we’re here to help. Whether you’re a novice or a summertime road warrior, these three tips will drastically simplify the process, making you feel like an old trailer-hauling expert:

1. Place one hand at the bottom of the steering wheel

2. To move the trailer left, gently nudge the steering wheel left

3. To move the trailer right, gently nudge the steering wheel right

The trick is speed – the slower you move in reverse and the slower you adjust the wheel, the easier time you’ll have getting that trailer to go where you want it go.

Bonus tip:

Before heading out on the road, practice backing up with the Road Adventures concierge at the RA Academy until it becomes comfortable. By the time you get to the campsite, you’ll be parking with the confidence of a 50-year-old trucker.
