PIGEON FORGE

Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, just 6-1/2 hours from Columbus, Ohio, Pigeon Forge offers a unique flavor for weekend camping getaways. From Dolly Parton’s infamous Dollywood, to river rafting, to historical tours, “The Forge” offers a bit of everything. Slow down with a stroll on the Riverwalk Greenway, be entertained at one of the many museums or rev up your day with an ATV adventure. Water and theme parks offer thrills, plus river rafting, indoor skydiving and zip lines will feed your need for speed. We suggest moving about the town via the trolley – you will spend your time focusing on your fun, not something as trivial as parking. Top off the day with a dinner show and head back to your comfy Road Adventures camper primed to recap your ideal weekend escape. With nine campgrounds in the area, you’ll find a perfect spot for some great camping.

OLD MILL SQUARE

For nearly two centuries the water of the Pigeon River has turned the wheel at the Old Mill. Today, you can still see the stones grind grain as it has been done since 1836. The renowned Old Mill Square includes a general store, creamery, candy kitchen, farmhouse kitchen, women’s boutique, distillery, pottery and two restaurants, The Old Mill Restaurant and Old Miller Pottery House Café & Grille. You will be enchanted with the millers, blacksmiths, cooks and potters in this quaint square and popular lunch spot. Be sure to watch for demos or tour the mill before purchasing your own bag of wheat to take home.

ENTERTAINMENT HUB

Pigeon Forge specializes in entertainment. Tour the interactive exhibits of the Titanic Museum Attraction – the Grand Staircase will amaze. Your kids – and the kid in you – will be delighted at WonderWorks. Relive the 1989 San Francisco earthquake or lie on a bed of 3,500 nails. Science and amazement come together here – don’t miss the Glow-in-the-Dark Ropes Course. The fun factor continues in Pigeon Forge with a plethora of stage shows. Try the Comedy Barn or Country Tonite. Or, enjoy a dinner show like the Dixie Stampede, Lumberjack Feud or Hatfield & McCoy. You are sure to be full and smiling when you head to bed in your Road Adventures camper.

WATER AND THEME PARKS

Pigeon Forge and Dollywood are often synonymous. This year you can up the ante by riding the new Lighting Rod – at 73 mph. It is the world’s fastest rollercoaster. If wet is what you want, check out Splash Country. Or, try The Island in Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains Wheel. Your view at 200-feet is guaranteed to be outstanding. Maybe the kids need to shake out the wiggles – bounce around at the Euro-Bungy Dome or race your peeps on go-karts. For an even bigger adrenaline rush, try indoor skydiving. Or go zip lining 450 to 2,000 feet above the ground in nearby Sevierville. Add in a horseback trail ride to keep things “Tennessee” style. After all that physical exertion, head back to your incredibly comfortable Road Adventures camper for some well-earned rest.
