FAMILY ADVENTURE AT ALUM CREEK STATE PARK CAMGROUND

Alum Creek State Park Campground opened for the season on April 1st- and Jake and his family enjoyed a weekend of camping just a few days later.

They rented our Winnebago Minnie 2801BHS, which was perfect for a family of 5. The travel trailer has plenty of room with a queen bed in a separate bedroom, a large bunk bed, a dinette, and a couch.

Camping with young kids may seem a bit daunting- but they have a few helpful tips they have learned over the years.

  • If you have a kid that goes to bed early (or at different times than other kids), set up the pack and play in the bedroom with a loud sound machine. Older kids may or may not nap in a new environment.. see photo below which was taken during “nap time”!

  • Don’t overthink or plan too much. Your kids love just spending time with you- telling stories over the fire, making smores, going on hiking adventures

  • If possible- invite grandparents! Extra adults help keep an eye on the kids, and they enjoy making precious memories with their grandkids

They chose to camp at Alum Creek State Park because as Columbus locals, it is a quick, easy drive. In addition, there are a lot of trees and most sites are spacious. In addition, there is a beach accessible for all campers- which will be nice when the weather turns a bit warmer! There are plenty of hiking trails, too. Below is a picture taken on a hiking trail along the water.

They camped on G loop, where the beach access is located. Also in G loop is a playground, which the kids enjoyed. After playing on the playground, it was time for dinner. A portable high chair is a fantastic investment to keep a little one contained and safe during meal time.

For the older kids, they brought along a kiddie picnic table, which was a hit as well.

After dinner they enjoyed the campfire- because you can’t go camping without relaxing around the campfire, right?!

Overall, they had a great weekend at Alum Creek State Park making memories. There is nothing like unplugging and enjoying the great outdoors with your loved ones!

P.S. make sure you know how long your driveway is if you plan on bringing the rental home!
