ROAD ADVENTURES HOT SPOT: OUTER BANKS, NORTH CAROLINA
This month, our Road Adventures Hot Spot takes us to gorgeous North Carolina and the popular sandy beaches of the Outer Banks, also known as OBX. Off of the Atlantic Ocean, and one of the East Coast’s top locations to visit, the beaches and touring area of the OBX has something for everyone to enjoy!
Below you can find our recommendations with things to enjoy on your next adventure there:
Kayak Adventures
Why not throw on a life preserver and soak up the waters? Outer Banks Kayak Adventures offers visitors the chance to embark on both guided and unguided tours while kayaking in the region. And with several trip options available down rivers and marshes, repeat trips may be exactly the kind of adventuring you’ll want when you’re there!
Jockey’s Ridge
Another bright spot in OBX is the natural sand dunes! Jockey’s Ridge is a 426-acre park with the tallest natural sand dune on the East Coast. But with opportunities to hang glide, have a picnic in the sand, and go kite flying, these dunes are in no way something you’d want to miss.
Cape Hatteras
This beautiful black and white spiraled lighthouse is an icon of the area and are absolutely worth the climb! There really isn’t something more spot-on for a beach vacation tourist spot than a classic historical lighthouse resulting in a climb that provides a gorgeous view across the water.
Kimball’s Kitchen
AAA. Four Diamond. This restaurant is the very definition of luxurious dining. Only open Tuesday through Saturday, offering live entertainment and “contemporary regional American land and seafood”, this restaurant is perfect for a date night in OBX that is worth making the most of.
Dolphin Watching
There are several options for this activity in OBX. Perfect for family fun on your trip, it’s amazing to see live dolphins on a lengthy tour out on the water. These tours offer seeing brilliant and enigmatic dolphins in the wild natural habitats.
Camping Options
Our featured pick for a camping location is at the Cape Hatteras KOA campground. Offering swimming pools, hot tub relaxation, fishing, a dog park, and bike rentals, this campground has everything you need to hook up and enjoy wonderful amenities while basking in the great outdoors while on your road adventure.
The Outer Banks of North Carolina give an amazing beach vacation full of incredible experiences, historical sites, great food, fun, and shopping! Our travel trailers, Airstreams, and RV drivables are ready and waiting for you to take with you as you go make memories!
