COOKE CITY

Started as a gold mining camp in 1870, the tiny hamlet of Cooke City (and sister town of Silver Gate) are the northeast gateway to Yellowstone National Park. Tucked between the Gallatin National Forest and the rugged Beartooth Mountains, Cooke City is surrounded by some of the most remote wilderness in the lower 48. At an elevation of nearly 7,500 feet, this is ground zero for outdoor enthusiasts. Numerous hiking trails offer every level of experience. Expect to see wildlife – on the trail and in the town. Black bears, grizzly bears, wolves, mountain goats, moose, bison, elk, deer and other animals inhabit this rugged terrain. Though small in population – just 300 residents in the summertime – Cooke City is not short on things to do. It’s a must-see for anyone wanting a true road adventure.

BECAUSE GETTING THERE IS HALF THE FUN

AND GETTING THERE CAN ALSO BE TWICE THE FUN

Adventurers can also experience theΒ Chief Joseph Scenic Byway.
