ROAD ADVENTURES HOT SPOT: TETTEGOUCHE STATE PARK, MN
The weather is getting colder and the beauty of winter is just around the corner! This is why we have chosen Tettegouche State Park in Minnesota as this month’s Hot Spot. This incredible 9,346 acre park contains six inland lakes, four waterfalls, and a beach off of Lake Superior. With twenty-two miles of hiking trails, twelve miles of ski trails, and several rock climbing locations, you will have plenty of opportunity for adventure and fun along the way!
High Falls
This 70-foot waterfall is the highest waterfall you will find within the borders of Minnesota. Located along the beautiful Baptism River, this falls is worth the hike! Enjoy a round trip route that is easily accessible within Tettegouche State Park and will provide fresh air, beautiful site seeing, and adventure for the whole family!
Minnesota Ski Trails
Whether you prefer classical skiing or skate skiing, Minnesota has several trails of cross-country ski trails ready for you to enjoy! Palisade Head Rock Climbing
Palisade Head houses the crème-de-la-crème of Minnesota climbing. With over a hundred different routes, this rock climbing location offers the perfect spot to work out some difficult crags. While this area offers climbing experiences for primarily more advanced to expert climbers, the nearby Shovel Point features a handful of routes that are better designed for intermediate climbers.
Splashing Rock Restaurant
If you like eating right on the water’s edge, then the very appropriately named Splashing Rock Restaurant in Two Harbors, Minnesota is worth the visit. Splashing Rock Restaurant is open all year long and has a menu that changes with the seasons. If you like seafood from the North, Splashing Rock Restaurant has an incredible Canadian cold-water walleye that you will want to try!
Tettegouche State Park
Tettegouche State Park (Baptism River) campground has twenty-two campsites with electrical hookups. They offer drinking water, a dump station, and modern restrooms. Each developed campsite has a table, grill and fire ring.
The Park offers spectacular views of the lake at Shovel Point and visitors can enjoy the 60-foot high water fall on the Baptism River. There are many hiking and biking opportunities, as well as cross-country skiing in the winter.
