Mammoth features the oldest buildings in the park, including structures from the days when the U.S. Army was managing Yellowstone. You’ll want to drop by the visitor’s center to soak up some history by viewing exhibits and a short movie. There’s even a wildlife museum upstairs. And don’t forget to look for (but don’t approach) the ever-present elk that graze on the lawns of the village. In nearby Gardiner a few miles to the north, you will find outdoor adventure packages such as llama pack trips, horseback riding, backpacking, whitewater rafting, fishing or zip line packages.
